Charles Williams and Chris Forbes posted a blistering opening round of 7-under 65 to set the early pace at the Charlie Coe Invitational

CASTLE ROCK, CO (June 1, 2011) -- The 22nd Anniversary of the Charlie Coe Invitational teed off at Castle Pines Golf Club today, June 1st, 2011. Featuring some of the best Mid-Amand Senior-Am teams from around the world in a two-man scratch better ball format, the tournament celebrates the legend of Charlie Coe with some great golf on a great course. With slightly overcast skies, calm winds and a comfortable temperature, it was a perfect day for scoring and the players took the pportunity to postsome great scores. In the Mid-Am division, Charles Williams and Chris Forbes, of Houston and Katy, Texas, posted a blistering opening round of seven under 65 to set the early pace. In a three-way tie for second place at 66 is defending champions Jim Strickland and Warren Vickers, both ofScottsdale, Arizona, Jeff Knox and Jack Larkin, of Augusta and Atlanta, Georgia, and Denny Pelle and Jeff Fujimoto, from Phoenix and Scottsdale, Arizona. In the Senior-Am Division, Denny Alexander of Ft. Worth, Texas, and Gary Hardin of La Quinta, California, fired an eight under 64 to lead the pack after the first day. Jim Crane and Hunter Nelson of Houston, Texas, are insecond with a 65, followed closely by John Pigg of Austin, Texas, and Eddie Lyons of Shreveport, Louisiana, and Mike Rice and Jerry Hudgins of Houston and Kingwood, Texas. The second round will begin tomorrow, June 2nd, at 8:00 am, with the final round scheduled for Friday, June 3rd.
