Fairhaven, Ma (May 2, 2011) - Two of the game's most consistent performers, Pro V1x loyalists Bubba Watson and Lee Westwood each celebrated momentum-building victories Sunday while contributing to a four-win week for Titleist golf ball players around the world.
Consistency was the week's overwhelming theme: Watson's victory was his second of the 2011 PGA Tour season (and third and 10 months); Westwood’s win was his second in the last two weeks; and Pro V1 loyalist Maria Hjorth earned her second victory in her last six starts on the LPGA.
Titleist golf ball players have now won 42 times across the worldwide professional tours in 2011, more than five times the nearest competitor with eight and more than all competitors combined.
In total, 5,430 players have played Titleist golf balls in competition across the worldwide professional tours this season, more than six times the nearest competitor with 894 and more than all competitors combined.
PGA TOUR: Watson sealed his victory at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans with a birdie on the second hole of a sudden-death playoff with Titleist Brand Ambassador Webb Simpson.
Watson and Simpson each played the New Pro V1x golf ball and shot 3-under 69s in the final round at TPC Louisiana to tie at 15-under 273 in regulation, two shots ahead of three players including Titleist Brand Ambassador Jason Dufner and Pro V1 loyalist K.J. Choi.
For Watson it was again a story of length and precision, as he led the field in both Driving Distance (331.4 yards) and Greens in Regulation (80.6 percent), just as he did earlier in the season in his win at the Farmers Insurance Open.
For Simpson, it was another showcase of consistency. Already this season, Simpson has recorded two runner-ups, three top-10s and seven top-25 finishes. Simpson tied for third in G.I.R. with a 79.2% mark.
Titleist was the overwhelming golf ball of choice at the event with 104 players, more than five times the nearest competitor with 18. Titleist also was first in Iron Sets (44); and Putters (61).
EUROPEAN TOUR: Westwood solidified his World No. 1 ranking after following up last week's winning performance at the Indonesian Open with another victory at the Ballantine's Championship in South Korea.
Westwood fired a final round 5-under 67 on a windy day to finish at 12-under 276, coming back from three shots behind at the start of the round to earn a one-shot victory. Westwood now has 21 career European Tour titles and 35 total victories worldwide.
Titleist was the overwhelming golf ball of choice at the event with 88 players, more than three times the nearest competitor with 25. Titleist also was first in Hybrids (40), including 24 new 910H models; Iron Sets (42): and Sand, Lob and Approach wedges (135).
LPGA: Hjorth posted 12 birdies and an eagle over the weekend at the Avnet LPGA Classic, shooting consecutive 5-under 67s to earn her fifth career LPGA Tour title. Hjorth finished at 10-under 278, two strokes ahead of Pro V1 loyalist Song-Hee Kim. Hjorth was also a winner at the season-ending LPGA Tour Championship in November.Pro V1x loyalist Na Yeon Choi tied for third, two shots behind Hjorth, while Kraft Nabisco champion and Pro V1x loyalist Stacy Lewis finished alone in fifth, another two shots back.Of the 12 players who finished among the Top 10 and ties, nine trusted a Titleist golf ball for their success. In total, 107 players in the field trusted Titleist golf balls, nearly nine times the nearest competitor with 12 and more than all competitors combined.
NATIONWIDE TOUR: The Monday qualifier who captured the South Georgia Classic also relied upon the New Pro V1x golf ball for his success. In fact, Titleist was the overwhelming golf ball of choice at the event with 106 players, more than six times the nearest competitor with 16.
Of the 12 players who finished among the Top 10 and ties, 11 trusted a Titleist golf ball for their success. Titleist also was first in Iron Sets (45); Sand, Lob and Approach Wedges (138); and Putters (63).
