MARCH 13, 2011 (San Francisco, CA) -- Cal redshirt freshman Brandon Hagy won the 95th San Francisco City Championship in an 8 and 7 victory over St. Ignatius High School Senior Jack Persons.

"He is just a very solid player," commented tournament director Brett Townley. "Fairways and greens ... fairways and greens." Persons played well but the prodigious Hagy drives that split the tree-lined fairways were too much for the George Washington University bound senior. "It's kind of difficult to make a move when he's always 40 yards ahead," Persons said.

In the Senior Division, the NCGA Player of the year Mark Miller took down the defending City Champ Herb Jensen 1-up, with a 10 foot par putt on the last hole.

It was a neck and neck match -- Jensen made birdie on No. 13 to tale a 1-up lead, but Miller came right back and birdied the long, straightaway 14th. Then Jensen sank a solid putt for par on the 15th after finding the left hazard, and the duo traded pars on No's. 16 and 17.

Miller's name is now on the same trophy as his friend Gary Vanier (who has one Senior title and several overall titles on his resume). After winning his semi-final match over Doug Johnson of Fresno, Miller got a three word text from Vanier, who doesn't waste his words.

"Seal the deal."

"I took that as a sign of support," laughed Miller, who went on to laud his opponent Jensen.

"He's a great wedge player, and one of the most solid chippers among Norcal seniors. And he's a nice guy - it was very congenial out there."

In the Women's final co-medalist Hannah Suh defeated Briana Mao of Folsom 1-up. Mao had rallied with wins on Nos. 16 and 17 but a halve at No. 18 clinched the championship for Suh, a Junior at Evergreen Valley High School.
