Russell Humphrey of Lodi wins his second-straight amateurgolf.com title
BRENTWOOD, Calif. (March 6, 2011) -- Russell Humphrey of Lodi won his second-straight amateurgolf.com event today at the Diablo Valley Amateur, played at Shadow Lakes and Deer Ridge Golf Clubs. Rounds of 65-72=137 put Humphrey at 5-under on the weekend, just one stroke clear of Blake Bertrand and Anthony Barrera. Both players surged on Sunday in tough conditions at Deer Ridge, firing 69 and 68 respectively.
Humphrey, who just two weeks ago got his first amateurgolf.com victory with partner Kevin Wentworth at the Monterey County Four Ball (Pacific Grove Golf Links), now has his first AGC individual title under his belt and changed his schedule to play the AGC California Mid-Am at the end of the month to go for the "hat trick."
Humphrey's near course record round on Saturday at Shadow Lakes put him on top by two strokes over Darryl Donovan at the halfway point. His tournament total just missed the tournament record posted in 2010 by Roberto Galletti, Jr.
SENIOR, NET, WOMEN'S DIVISIONS
Jim Knoll of Sunnyvale picked up his second amateurgolf.com victory of the year, his two round total of 2-under 141 placed him two clear of Jay Guerin and 2010 amateurgolf.com senior points leader Peter Moren. Scott Carelli of Menlo Park counted on a pair of steady net 71's for the net division title. Kevin Logan was four back at 146. And Troy Mullins of Beverly Hills won the small-but-spirited Women's Division where one player, Natasha Chapman, came from as far as Cherokee Village, Arkansas to kick off the winter rust and compete.
The 2011 Diablo Valley Amateur will again be played at both Shadow Lakes Golf Club and Deer Ridge Golf Club in Brentwood. We look forward to playing these two fantastic courses, located directly across the street from each other, as we grow this into...
