The Florida Winter Series travels to Santa Lucia Golf & River Club where three age-division champion teams are crowned
PORT ST. LUCIE, Florida (Feb. 1, 2011) -- Thomas Midtgaard and Pete Williams captured the 40-54 age division of the FSGA Winter Series Four-Ball event at the Santa Lucia Golf & River Club on January 31 - February 1. Mark Rosenbaum and Steve Sponder topped the 55-64 age division by two strokes as Mark Mulvoy and Thomas Slater edged out the field for the 65 and over age division title.
In the 40-54 age division, Thomas Midtgaard, from Fort Myers, and Pete Williams, of Juno Beach, recorded a tournament total of 8-under par 136 to win the division title. Midtgaard and Williams fired a six-under par 66 in the first round to hold an eight stroke lead heading into the final round of play. The pair shot a two-under par round of 70 in the final round to secure the title. The team of Nick Fernandez, of Pembroke Pines, and James Weick, of Fort Lauderdale, and the team of Pete DeLongchamp, of Sebring, and Michael Goldschmidt, of Lakeland, finished tied for second place with a tournament total of one-under par 143.
Mark Rosenbaum, of Hollywood, and Steve Sponder, from Plantation, secured the 55-64 age division title with a tournament total of 138. Rosenbaum and Sponder went wire-to-wire after rounds of 68-70, to win by two strokes. Larry Mueller, of Palm City, and Kim Schwencke, from Temple Terrace, fired a final round six-under par 66 to grab second place honors with a tournament total of 140. Glen Davis, from Orlando, and Butch Von Weller, of Winter Park, fired rounds of 71-73 to finish alone in third place.
The duo from Vero Beach, Mark Mulvoy and Thomas Slater secured the 65 and over age division title after rounds of 70-67 for a tournament total of seven-under par 137. The duo held off a charging Jim Applegate, of Palm City, and George Andre, of Palm Beach Gardens, who carded the low round of the tournament, with an eight-under par 64 in the final round to secure second place honors. Rick Tuck and Ebba Wiechowski, from The Villages, finished in third place, with a tournament total of 146.
The Winter Series events include eight competitions, seven individual events and one four-ball event. There are three age divisions, Mid-Senior (40-54), Senior (55-64) and Super Senior (65 & over). The Winter Series is a great opportunity for golfers to compete in competitive events that normally may not because they do not live in Florida year round.
