Osler wins PBCA Challenge by two

JUPITER, Fla. (Sept. 11, 2010) - Darryl Osler of Boca Raton earned his first Palm Beach County Golf Association individual title Saturday when he fired a five under par 67 to win the 16th annual Challenge by two strokes. Osler, 49, a pool contractor, bogeyed his first hole, the par-4 17th, but rallied with four birdies on the front nine (Nos. 2, 6, 7 and 9), three-putted the 11th, then finished with three more birdies, at 12, 14 and 15, on the Fazio course at Jonathan’s Landing Golf Club at Old Trail. “I told myself at the 17th tee, ‘Don’t hook it left,’ and that’s exactly what I did,” Osler said. Overall, he birdied three of the four par-5 holes and hit what he called his shot of the day at the par-3 14th, a 4-iron that stopped rolling three inches short of the cup. “I was rolling the ball well and made a lot of putts,” Osler added, noting a tip he received from another player during a practice round earlier in the week which simplified his pre-shot routine. “It was just a solid round of golf.” Osler’s only previous PBCGA title was the Dodge Four-Ball with Tom Fiocchi in 2005 at The Fox Club. Tied for second at 69 among the 42 entries were Jared Meyers of Jupiter, three birdies on each nine and three bogeys, and Robbie Wight of West Palm Beach, who had five birdies and two bogeys. Meyers was awarded low net honors with 69 in a match of cards with Lee King of Stuart, who had 71 on his own ball.
