Maine Senior Open
SCARBOROUGH, Maine (Sept. 1, 2010) -- The 2010 Senior Amateur Championship is in the books. Both round one, at Biddeford-Saco CC, and round two at Nonesuch River GC, were played in temperatures pushing the 100 degree mark. Lowell Watson, fresh from last weeks win with partner Truman Libby at the Senior Two-Man Championships, fired the only under par round of the tournament, a 4-under 66. Despite having a tough first round on Tuesday, Lowell’s combined two day total of 146, gave the first round leaders a hint that they would have to earn this championship.

Ron Brown, of Portland CC, soon posted a two day total of 145, to edge Watson for the lead with only two groups left on the golf course. Ron Lehr, of Falmouth CC, who was in a four way tie for second after a first round 73, shot a one over par 71 in round two, to become the new leader with one group left. First round leader, Mark Plummer, of Augusta CC, faded in the heat, finishing his second round by going five over par in his last five holes, to finish with a two day total of 147. Doug Craib, from Martindale CC, who was also part of the first round tie for second place, posted a 74 for round two, to finish in a tie for fourth with Plummer.

Congratulations to Senior Champion Ron Lehr for a hard earned victory.
