Moran/Slutzky win Merit Amateur

At the stableford format Merit Amateur, records were broken in Mid-Am and Senior Divisions

LIBERTYVILLE, IL (Aug. 29, 2010) -- With so many records broken at the uniquely formatted Merit Amateur, a good start in describing this year's event would probably be an overview. So here goes. The Merit Amateur is a 54-hole stableford scoring event. The first 18 of each day is better ball and the third nine of each day team aggregate, both balls count. It's unlike many other two man team events - there isn't much time for a break when playing aggregate, especially when shooting for the title. In the Mid-Am division the one best ball record was broken three times. BJ Bohn and John Finnin shot +14 as did champions Bob Moran and Chadd Slutzky. Then on the final day Vance Antoniou and Mark Esposito shot +15. Bob Moran and Chadd Slutzky didn’t give away any points on the final nine and won by 4, breaking the overall tournament scoring record at +22. In the senior division many records were broken. The one better ball record was broken three times as well. Bev Hargraves and Tab Hudson shot +11. Senior champions Jud Grace and Peter Marks shot +12, and Bev Hargraves and Tab Hudson shot +13 also. The Senior aggregate record was shattered by our champions on day two which won them the tournament, they shot +10 on the final nine. And they set the record for the senior overall point total at +19.
