DAVIDSON, NC (Aug. 12, 2010) -- Mark Wagner of Statesville and Dick Hogan of Burlington holed five and 12 foot birdie putts on 17 and 18 respectively to win the North Carolina Senior Four-Ball Championship at River Run Country Club.

Wagner and Hogan edged Richard Giles and Ed Greene of Winston Salem by one.

Giles and Greene, trailed Wagner and Hogan by two strokes heading into the final round and reeled off 5 birdies in the first six holes to take a temporary lead. However a double bogey on hole 7 allowed the champs to begin a comeback. “Their double bogey on 7 allowed us some hope after their fantastic start,” said Wagner. “We started plugging along and started making some birdies.”

Hogan credited his tennis coach with helping his mental game. “My tennis coach has been working with me on calming my mind,” said the dentist. “It really helped me out there today.”

Defending champions Don Detwelier and Paul Simson could not team together this year due a Simson scheduling conflict. Detweiler teamed with William Everett to finish six shots back.

This event is conducted by the Carolinas Golf Association.
