Mark Dull posted a two-round total of 3-under par 141 to take a one stroke lead heading into the weekend at Arnold Palmer's Bay Hill Golf Club
ORLANDO, Florida (June 25, 2010) -- Mark Dull posted a two-round total of 3-under par 141 to take a one stroke lead heading into the weekend of the 93rd Florida State Amateur Championship at Arnold Palmer’s Bay Hill Club & Lodge in Orlando. The Championship continues with the low 70 competitors and ties advancing to play the final 36 holes on Arnold Palmer’s Bay Hill Club & Lodge June 26-27.
Marc Dull, of Winter Haven, playing his first round on Arnold Palmer’s Bay Hill Club & Lodge, recorded a 3-under par 33 on his front nine and continued his solid play with a two-under par 34 on his back nine for a five-under par 67. Dull, playing his second round at Orange Tree Golf Club, came out firing with three birdies on the front nine for a three-under par 33. Dull struggled on the back nine with carding a five-over par 41 for a round of two-over par 74. Dull’s two-round total of 141 puts him at 3-under par for the Championship.
Brad Brunner, of Tampa, sits one stroke back of Dull with a two round total of two-under par 142. Brunner carded a one-under par 71 on Arnold Palmer’s Bay Hill Club & Lodge in round one and shot a second round 1-under par 71 at Orange Tree Golf Club. Brunner’s second round consisted of three birdies and two bogeys to stand alone in second place. Three competitors are tied in third place with a two round total of one-under par 143, including Ben Vertz, of Coral Springs. Vertz shot a first round one-under par 71 at Orange Tree Golf Club and a second round even par 72 at Bay Hill Club & Lodge. Sean Dale, of Jacksonville, carded rounds of 70-73 to also stand at 143, and Doug Snoap, of Apopka, posted rounds 69-74. Kelly McHugh, of Lakeland, provided the low round of the day on Arnold Palmer’s Bay Hill Club & Lodge firing a four-under par 68. Nicholas Mullhaupt, of Bradenton carded the low round at Orange Tree Golf Club with a four-under par 68.
The top 168 amateur golfers in the state will play 18 holes each on Arnold Palmer’s Bay Hill Club & Lodge and Orange Tree Golf Club on June 24-25. After 36 holes, the field will be cut to the low 70 and ties. The final 36 holes of the Championship will be played on Arnold Palmer’s Bay Hill Club & Lodge on June 26-27. Before reaching the Championship, more than 875 participants attempted to qualify at one of 16 sites across the state.
Started in 1914, the FSGA State Amateur is the oldest continuous sporting event in the state as well as the largest amateur event in Florida. Past Amateur champions include Bob Murphy, Jerry Pate, and PGA Tour players David Peoples, Chris Couch, and Barry Cheesman.
Spectators and media are welcome to watch the state’s best amateur golfers compete at Bay Hill Club & Lodge and Orange Tree Golf Club.
