Greg Koster fires a second round 64 to get to 3-under, holds a 1 shot lead

DUNCAN, BC, Canada (June 8, 2010) -- Greg Koster of Courtenay, B.C. is alone atop the leaderboard heading into the final round of the 2010 BC Men’s Mid-Amateur Championship at Cowichan Golf & Country Club in Duncan, B.C. Koster fired a second-round 6-under par 64 for the low round of the day and sits at 3-under 137 for the championship. Koster, who was in a seven-way tie for fifth yesterday, carded four birdies and one eagle for a 32 on the front nine today. Steve Berry of Sooke, B.C. shot a 3-under 67 and sits one shot back of Koster at 2-under 138. Round one leader, Saare Adams moved to third at 1-under 139 followed by defending champion, Ben Griffin in fourth at 1-over 141. Berry continues to lead the master 40 competition followed by Sandy Harper of Nanaimo, B.C. in second at 3-over 143. Norm Bradley of Kelowna, B.C. and Greg Bismeyer of Pitt Meadows, B.C. sit tied for third at 4-over 144. “I made a lot of good shots today,” says Berry, who won the 1994 and 1997 mid-amateur titles. “It’s not about winning. I just want to play solid tomorrow and get a spot on the interprovincial team.” Following the completion of the second round, Craig Doell and Saare Adams of Victoria Golf Club claimed the mid-amateur club championship at 1-over 281. The final round of the 2010 BC Men’s Mid-Amateur Championship concludes Wednesday starting at 7:30 a.m. with the final group teeing off at 11:42 a.m. The BC Mid Amateur Championship features two divisions: the Mid-Amateur Division for players aged 25-39, and the Master 40 Division for players aged 40 and above. There is a winner for each division, as well as an overall champion. The B.C. team to the Canadian Championship will be made up of 4 players from this championship and 2 of the team must be over 40 years of age.
