CASTLE PINES, Colorado (June 4, 2010) -- The final round of the Charlie Coe Invitational at Castle Pines Golf Club is complete and some familiar faces surfaced to the top of both the Mid – Am and Senior – Am divisions. The weather was once again perfect and the golf course took some revenge on the field, making the scoring just a bit more difficult for the final round. In the Mid-Am Division, Jim Strickland and Warren Vickers of Scottsdale, Arizona, posted a final round 67 for a three day total of 203 to nip the team of John Elway and Tom Hart, both of Denver, Colorado, who stumbled a bit on the last day with a round of even par 72. Two teams tied for third with 206 totals – Brad Wilder of Ft. Wright, Kentucky, and Steve White of Jackson, Wyoming, and Jeff Knox and Tripp Kuhlke of Augusta, Georgia. The team of Strickland and Vickers also won the Charlie Coe Invitational in 2007 and 2006. In the Senior –Am Division, 2008 Charlie Coe champions Rick George of Denver, Colorado, and Paul Schlachter of Bridgeville, Pennsylvania, roared back from a slow start to claim the title. They posted rounds of 65 and 66 after an opening round of 70 to easily outdistance first round leaders Bill Jackson of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Donald Weeks of Palm City, Florida. The tournament was a tremendous tribute to Charlie Coe, one of the best amateur players in golf. His accomplishments included two USGA Amateur Championships (1949 and 1958), playing in nineteen consecutive Masters (making the cut fifteen times) and being a seven time member of the Walker Cup (Captain in 1957 and 1959). Charlie would be proud of the play that was on display this week for his tournament.
