2010 Big Ten Player of the Year Scott Langley defeats 8-time MAGA Player of the Year Skip Berkmeyer in one of the best final matches in the tournament's history

ST. LOUIS, Missouri (May 15, 2010) -- For many, it was the match all wanted to see, 8-time MAGA player of the year Skip Berkmeyer and 2010 Big Ten Player of the Year Scott Langley for the Metropolitan Match Play Championship. Indeed, those who were at Old Warson Country Club Sunday afternoon witnessed what some said was the best final match in the history of the Championship. The final match never saw either player hold more than 1up lead and where each player played the Old Warson CC course at even par. After havling the first 5 holes with par, Berkmeyer drew first blood with a birdie at the par 5 6th. Langley squared the match back up with a brilliant approach shot at the par 4 8th to about 2 feet, which was conceded by Berkmeyer. The match remained all square to the par 5 12th, where Langley rolled in a 6 foot birdie to for his first lead of the final match. However, back-to-back bogeys by Langley saw the match lead go back to Berkmeyer heading to the 15th tee and would remain that way as the players came to the par 3 17th hole. With a back left hole location at the 210 yard 17th hole, Berkmeyer playing first, found his tee shot short right. Langley's tee shot rolled just long off the green. After both players pitched on, Berkmeyer found himself with an eight footer for par which stayed just high above the hole. Langley had a 5 footer to save par and square the match, which he rolled in. Langley and Berkmeyer walked up the short hill to the 18th tee all square with the match on the line. Langley, with the honor, striped his tee shot perfectly down the 18th hole. Berkmeyer pulled his tee shot left and found the trees, it came down well back and a long way from home. Berkmeyer played his second shot down the right side, but still found himself about 100 yards from the front right hole location. Langley played his approach to the front fringe, where Berkmeyer also found himself laying three. Playing first, Berkmeyer rolled his putt up close and was given the bogey 5. Langley, from about the same spot left his birdie putt 6 feet short of the hole and calmly stepped up and rolled in the par putt for the win.
