Taylor Travis with Runners Up R.C. Orr of Sacramento (L)
and Randy Haag of Burlingame
NOVATO, Calif. (Jan 31, 2010) -- Taylor Travis of Fremont won the Wine Country Cup at StoneTree Golf Club on Sunday, holding onto the two stroke lead he had over R.C. Orr of Sacramento after his 2-under par 70 in round one, as both players shot 73 in the final round. Randy Haag, who has won this tournament at least three times, shot the low round of the weekend with a 3-under 69 on Sunday to tie Orr for second place.

In the Senior Division, Paul Balatti of Santa Rosa won a three way sudden-death playoff over NCGA veterans Rob Thompson of Merced and Bob Olds of Brentwood. All three had posted 36-hole totals of 9-over 153. Starting the playoff on the par three 10th hole, Balatti hit his iron shot to within 6 feet and made the birdie putt. The 10th is a a relatively short one-shotter over water with a sliver of a green, putting a premium on club selection. And since the hole is in view of the balcony of the beautiful StoneTree clubhouse, there were likely a few extra nerves involved.

StoneTree member Bill Hudson of San Anselmo caught fire on Sunday, posting a net 66 to win by four over Noel Morgan of San Francisco. The Wine Country Cup counts as a "points tournament" for StoneTree Players Club members.

NOTES:

Hole-in-one -- Pat Phillips of Moutain View aced the 17th hole; it was his second career hole-in-one.

SPECIAL THANKS:

To the entire staff of StoneTree Golf Club for hosting us this weekend at their 5 star facility.
