ORMOND BEACH, FL (December 15, 2009)--James Weick, of Fort Lauderdale, outlasted a two-hour fog delay to capture the Winter Series event run by the Florida State Golf Association at Plantation Bay Golf & Country Club in Ormond Beach, December 14 - 15. He was joined in the winner’s circle by Robert McKnight, of New Smyrna Beach and Bob Coleman, of The Villages who won the Senior and Super Senior divisions respectively.

James Weick, of Fort Lauderdale, went wire-to-wire in the Regular Division to win by two strokes. After carding a one under par 71 in the first round, Weick, a past Winter Series Champion, held on for the victory, carding a 79 in the final round to win by three strokes. Scott Jones, of Orange Park, finished in second place with a tournament total of 153. Craig DelFabro, of Lakewood Ranch, Jim Dunlop, of Cocoa and Jim Hammons, of Port Orange, all finished tied for third place with a tournament total of 156.

Robert McKnight, of New Smyrna Beach, came from a five stroke deficit in the Senior Division to win by two strokes. McKnight followed his first round 77 with a three under par 69, to claim first place honors. With this victory McKnight booked his ticket to the Senior Amateur Championship at Southern Hills Plantation. John Hall, of Sarasota, finished in second place shooting rounds of 76-72. Claiming third place honors was first round leader Steve Sponder, of Cooper City, with a tournament total of 149.

Bob Coleman, of The Villages, captured the Super Senior Division in a one hole play-off. Coleman carded a three over par 75 in the first round and followed that with a one over par 73 to force a play-off with Don Lambert, of Foley, Alabama who fired rounds of 74-74. Coleman secured the victory with a par on the first play-off hole. With this victory Coleman also booked his ticket to the Senior Amateur Championship at Southern Hills Plantation. Robert Layman, of Ormond Beach, finished in third place with a tournament total of 152.

The Winter Series events include eight competitions, six individual events and two four-ball events. There are three age divisions, Mid-Senior (40-54), Senior (55-64) and Super Senior (65 & over). The Winter Series is a great opportunity for golfers to compete in competitive events that normally may not because they do not live in Florida year round.
