FARMINGDALE, New York (June 22, 2009) -- Nick Taylor never came close to the magical 65 he posted in the second round during the Sunday and Monday final rounds (but hey, who in the field did?) but he still finished as low amateur at the US Open by one stroke over Drew Weaver.

The 21-year-old University of Washington from Abbotsford, B.C., certainly showed the golfing world what he is capable of with his Saturday 65 -- a seven-birdie, two-bogey effort which was the second-best score of the second round, trailing only Lucas Glover's 64.

Taylor's final rounds of 75-75 put him at 288 for the championship, 8-over-par and tied for 36th overall.

Drew Weaver, the 2007 British Amateur Champion who just finished his collegiate career at Virginia Tech, opened with a 69, and was all smiles every time he was on TV. If he isn't selected to the 2009 Walker Cup team, it would be an outright crime.

Weaver showed resilience by surviving a triple-bogey Sunday on the unbelievably tough 10th hole, finishing strong to with birdies on Nos. 15 and 18 to post a 4-over 74 for round three. His final round 74 put him at 9-over for the championship and T40.

Kyle Stanley -- ready to turn pro shortly after this event -- also failed to find any magic in the final 36 holes, shooting 74-75 to finish at 13-over and T53.
