Salinas Match Play: 3 of 4 top seeds move on
SALINAS, Calif. (March 17, 2014) -- Top seed Will Cross, who shot 69 Saturday to earn stroke-play medalist honors, leads the final eight players into the quarterfinals at the 2014 Salinas City Match Play.

In the event's first weekend of play, Cross knocked of Scott Godfrey and Mark Moreno-Takegami to advance to next weekend's Round of 8. He'll take on Matt Halfron, who defeated Andrew Moore and Neil Duffy to advance.

Also moving on is No. 3 seed Scott Morris. He shot 72 in Saturday's stroke play and defeated Eashwar Phatattinam and Nick Simmons in the first two rounds of match play. He advances to take on David Moore, who won 2-and-1 in both matches over Taylor Bromley and Phil Brelland.

No. 4 seed Austin Roberts topped Damon McKenzie and Pat Burda in early match-play action and will head to the quarterfinals next weekend where he'll take on Sunny Yan. Yank, who shot 76 during the stroke-play portion of the event, was a 5-and-4 winner over Jack Burilson and prevailed 3-and-2 over Troy Armstrong to stay alive heading into the event's second weekend.

Jim Knoll shot 70 and was the No. 2 seed. He won his first match but lost to Ken Munro, the No. 18 seed, on Sunday. Munro bested David Rathgen, 5-and-4 in the first round before nipping Knoll, 1-up, in the Round of 16.

The quarterfinals and semifinals of the Salinas City Match Play are slated for Saturday at Salinas Fairways with the 36-hole championship round scheduled for Sunday.

ABOUT THE Salinas City Match Play

NCGA Points event. Tournament runs over two weekends with qualifying the first day, then two matches each day with a 36-hole final match for the Championship flight and an 18-hole final for all other flights (Senior/Super Senior, and Net). Senior/Super Senior flights are on the second of the two weekends.
