Nike Golf Innovation Cover-Up review

Several years ago, the golf industry realized
that golfers were having a difficult time with
their long irons. That prompted someone to
come up with the brilliant idea to create a
club that was a cross between a long iron and
a fairway wood and -- bingo! -- the hybrid
was born.
Nike recently took a similar approach to
apparel and outerwear and ultimately came up
with the Nike Innovation Cover-Up.
The brand determined that most golfers like
sweaters. Sweaters are warm, comfortable
and allow the body to move with ease. But rain
and wind often find their way through the
cozy knit.
Jackets, on the other hand, keep the weather
from creeping in, but don’t always allow
golfers the flexibility and movement they so
desire.
Nike's desire to deliver the combination of
comfort, warmth and protection drove the
design behind the Innovation Woven Cover-up.
“Golfers love wearing sweaters on the course,"
said Merritt Richardson, Nike's Vice
President of Global Golf Apparel. "They’re soft
and warm, and easy to move in, unlike a lot
of jackets.
“With the Innovation Woven Cover-up, there’s
no need to choose one over the other or
add layers. It’s the best of both worlds.”
The Cover-Up’s unique design allows for
flexibility and a full range of motion. The ribbed
sleeves (the sweater) are comprised of nylon
and spandex fabric that keeps you warm
and dry and gives you unrestricted flexibility in
the arms and shoulders -- essential for
good shotmaking.

The lightweight wind and water-resistant Dri-
FIT stretch woven body (jacket) is
breathable and protects against the elements.
“We’ve done a lot of research around the
thermal properties of 3D knit and increased
articulation for a better fit,” added Richardson.
“The knit is fabricated to be higher in
certain zones to trap heat and offer flexibility,
and dialed in around places like the elbow
to reduce material and weight.”
The Nike Innovation Woven Cover-up features
a bonded seam down the back which
eliminates stitching and added distractions.
Golfers will also like that it comes with a
traditional collar that offers additional
protection from the wind.
Another key feature of the Innovation Woven
Cover-Up is that it is perfect to wear on or
off the course. Part of Nike Golf’s Stay
Protected line, the Innovation Woven Cover-
Up is
truly a hybrid product. It creatively combines
two technologies into one as well as
multiple uses: on the course, off the course
and is perfect for layering.
The Cover-Up comes in medium base grey and
light base grey and retails at $120.
