If you wanted to know if Patrick Reed was the real deal, you got your answer on Sunday at Doral. For the 2nd time this year, Reed won with a full bag of Callaway equipment highlighted by his Big Bertha Alpha Driver (9°), an SR 3 Golf Ball and a red hot Odyssey Metal-X Milled #6 Putter.

The 23-year-old Callaway staffer became the youngest winner in WGC history with his one-shot victory at the WGC-Cadillac Championship, and picked up his 3rd win in the last 8 months. Unreal!

Here’s the Callaway/Odyssey equipment Reed used to win at Doral:

• Big Bertha Alpha Driver (9°) – Fuel 75x Shaft
• Big Bertha Fairway Wood (16°) – DGX 100 Shaft
• X Forged Irons (3-4) – Dynamic Gold Shafts
• RAZR X Muscleback Irons (5-PW) – Dynamic Gold Shafts
• Mack Daddy 2 Wedges (50°, 56°, 60°)
• Odyssey Metal-X Milled #6 Putter
• An SR 3 Golf Ball

Now here’s a great stat for you: Reed averaged 310.8 yards per drive during the event. His Big Bertha Alpha has the Gravity Core set with the weight down (towards the sole). In our latest edition of Tour Talk, Callaway Tour Rep, Mike Sposa discussed why some players set the Gravity Core up and why others move it to the down position.

When he talked about Reed’s setup (at the 1:56 mark), Sposa said, “Now with Alpha, we can flip the (Gravity) Core and put the CG down…And (Reed) is driving it the best of his career.”

Patrick’s driver is 43 inches and in an interview earlier this year he said, “I’ve stuck with 43 inches, just because I stay a little bit better in pattern in my swing. And working with Callaway since Byron Nelson last year, they were really able to fit me into the right kind of equipment, right kind of shafts and a combination that really keeps me going and allows me to feel confident in everything I’m doing.”

Reed used all of the equipment mentioned above to win earlier this year at the Humana Challenge, including an SR 3. The SR 1, SR 2 and SR 3 are all Tour Balls that are specifically engineered to provide the best aerodynamic performance for your swing speed.

If you’re swing speed is 90 mph or below, we recommend SR 1, if you’re 90 mph – 105 mph play SR 2, and if you’re over 105 mph like Patrick, play SR 3. Our SR Dr. of Golf Ball R&D, Dave Bartels breaks down how they perform in this Callaway video.

In addition to his 2 wins this year and 3 in 8 months, Reed is now up to 3rd in the FedExCup standings, joining fellow Callaway staffers Harris English (5th) and Chris Kirk (6th) in the top 6. Congratulations to Patrick on a great win! He’s going to be one of the best players on Tour for a LONG time.
