Clint Eastwood saves Tournament Director at AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am
By the time this weekend's AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am is complete, we'll have seen terrific efforts by the professionals and celebrity amateurs in the field.

Perhaps none of them, however, will be on par with Clint Eastwood's contribution to the tournament Thursday night.

Sitting alongside tournament director and Monterey Peninsula Foundation CEO Steve John, the infamous actor -- and part owner of Pebble Beach -- noticed him choking and intervened.

"A piece of cheese went in my mouth, and suddenly I couldn't breathe," John told the Pine Cone, a community newspaper in Carmel. "It was as bad as it could have been. But Clint came up behind me and he knew exactly what to do. He did the Heimlich maneuver and he lifted me right off the ground."

According to Eastwood, as told to the Pine Cone:

"I gave him three good jolts, and that got it out," said Eastwood. "The look on Steve's face was different than when somebody is just coughing or joking around. I looked in his eyes and saw that look of panic people have when they see their life passing before their very eyes. It looked bad."

John is a member of amateurgolf.com and former competitor in the Monterey County Four-Ball on the amateurgolf.com Tour.
