Match play begins at Kansas Match Play
SHAWNEE MISSION, Kan. (July 24, 2013) -- Fort Hays State University golfer Trey Herman took medalist honors during stroke play qualifying at the 103rd Kansas Amateur Championship today at Indian Hills Country Club.
Herman, a junior-to-be for the Tigers, used rounds of 69 and 67 to finish the 36-hole qualifying at 4-under par 136 total. Kansas State University golfer Kyle Weldon finished one shot back at 3-under par 137 total. In all, seven players finished stroke play qualifying under par. A playoff is underway at 9-over par 149 total with nine players battling for the final six spots to advance to the single elimination match play bracket.
Round of 64 matches will begin at 7:30 am on Thursday and continue through Sunday with the 36-hole final match.
This will be the third time that Indian Hills Country Club has hosted the Kansas Amateur. Previous years were 1985 and 2003. Past Kansas Amateur champions entered into the 2013 championship are William Hess, Bryan Norton, Corey Novascone and Sean Thayer.

ABOUT THE Kansas Amateur
36 holes of individual stroke play qualifying to
determine low 64 players advancing to single
elimination match play bracket. Any player that is
not
exempt from regional qualifying must go through
one
of the five regional qualifying sites or the second
chance qualifier to advance to the championship.
Open
to any male amateur golfer with an active
USGA/GHIN
Handicap Index through a KGA member club.
