LONGMONT, Colo. (June 22, 2013) — Despite shooting a 4-under-par 66 on Saturday, former University of Colorado golfer Derek Fribbs saw his lead cut to one at the CGA Public Links Championship at Twin Peaks Golf Course in Longmont.
Fribbs, who plays out of Colorado National Golf Club, backed up his opening-round 65 with a six-birdie, two-bogey effort. With a 9-under-par 131 total, only two players are within seven strokes of the 2008 5A state high school champion.
Steven Kupcho of CommonGround Golf Course, the 2012 CGA Stroke Play champion, fired a 7-under 63 -- the competitive course record from the blue tees -- which left the University of Northern Colorado golfer just one back of Fribbs.
Kupcho eagled the 553-yard second hole -- his 11th -- and added five birdies in a bogey-free round.
Former Colorado Mesa University golfer Brandon Bingaman stands five back of Fribbs after a 69 on Saturday.
Fribbs, Kupcho and Bingaman will be in the last group for Sunday's final round of the championship, which will be discontinued after this year.
The 41 players who are at 153 or better survived the 36-hole cut.
