Greystone Inv.: Fogler jumps to lead
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (June 20, 2013) -- Ben Fogler, a sophomore at Vanderbilt, fired a first-round 4-under 68 to take the early lead at the 2013 Greystone Invitational at Greystone Country Club.
Fogler's first-round mark is two better than Justin Newby and Wilson McDonald, of UAB, who both shot 2-under 70.
Forrest Gamble of Ole Miss, leads a group of five players at 1-under. The group includes Casey O'Toole of Cincinnati and Vincent Martino and Curtis Reed, who are teammates at the University of Houston.
All told, there are 12 players within four shots of the lead.
The Greystone Invitational is 72-hole tournament, featuring an impressive field of the south's top collegians and top mid-amateurs from Alabama, Louisiana and beyond.
The event features a cut to the low 60 plus ties after 36 holes. Greystone Country Club was designed by Rees Jones in 2000. The Legacy Course is a magnificent test of golf.
